Althorp - Celebrates 50 years of opening! - Described as England's most beautiful, undiscovered county, Northamptonshire is located right at the heart of rural England. For a truly enchanting experience we will visit the heart of the Shires Shopping Village and take a trip back in time to an old fashioned and leisurely shopping experience. The beautiful courtyard of model farm buildings constructed in 1867, house an esquisite array of shops, tea rooms, and superb Victorian band stand.
Althorp - Celebrating 50 years of welcoming visitors - Althorp has been home to the Spencer Family for nearly 500 years. In September 1997, the House became the focus of world attention following the tragic death of Diana Princess of Wales. Much of Althorp's charm derives from the sheer beauty of its setting. The house is set in 450 acres of idyllic park, much of which has remained unaltered over the centuries. The House contains a fascinating variety of furniture, ceramics as well as one of the finest collections of portraiture in the world.
The Exhibition - You will visit the stables, which are now the setting for the award - winning exhibition celebrating the life Diana, Princess of Wales and honoring her memory after the death. The displays include unique childhood cine footage, the famous bridal gown and over twenty of the Princess's most memorable outfits.
The House - You will see up to sixteen state rooms including the Wootton Hall, the Library, the saloon, the Marlborough and Sunderland Rooms and many fine pictures by Rubens, Van Dyck, Reynolds and Gainsborough. The Garden Lobby with its porcelain collection is also of great interest
The Grounds - You will also visit the Round Oval, as the lake is known, where Diana, Princess of Wales was laid to rest. The Round Oval is a man made lake, built in 1866 and there can be few people who are not moved by it's natural and tranquil beauty. An urn stands on the Island which has been left to grow wild in memory of the Princess.
