Hampton Court Palace -
This Full day tour starts with a visit to Hampton
Court Palace, built beside the River Thames just outside
London. Hampton Court Palace was constructed in the
early 1500’s, and became one of Henry VIII’s
favourite palaces. It was to this Palace he brought
his new bride Anne Boleyn (2nd Wife). Here Jane Seymour
(3rd Wife) gave birth to Edward VI and Catherine Howard
(5th Wife) was sentenced to death for treason. Less
than 200 years later, Christopher Wren set about re-building
part of the palace for King William III and Queen
Mary II. It is these changes that we see today. During
your visit, you will see the Medieval Kitchens, the
Great Hall and the State Apartments of William and
Mary.
On to Windsor Castle
- The drive will take you through riverside meadows
at Runnymede where King John signed the Magna Carta
and
where there is now a memorial to President John F.
Kennedy.
Windsor Castle, built high above the River Thames,
has been home to the Royal Family for 900 years. It
is the largest and oldest occupied castle in the world.
You will see the magnificent State Apartments*, still
used today for state occasions and royal receptions
by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and other members
of our Royal family. You will visit St George’s
Chapel, a fine example of Gothic architecture, and
the burial place of many kings and queens. It is also
the home of our senior order of chivalry, the Order
of the Garter.
Then it’s back on the coach for the short drive
back to London.
* Occasionally the State Apartments
are closed, on these occasions a 5% discount will
be offered.
