In September 1997, the House became the focus of world attention following the tragic death of Diana, Princess of Wales. Much of Althorp's charm derives from the sheer beauty of its setting. The House is set in 450 acres of idyllic park, much of which has remained unaltered over the centuries.

The Spencer family has resided at Althorp for nearly 500 years.

Much of Althorp’s allure comes from the sheer beauty of its location; set in 450 acres of idyllic park, much of which has remained unaltered over the centuries, the house contains a fascinating variety of ceramics, furniture and a fine collection of portraiture.

The Exhibition
Visit the stables; now the setting for the award-winning exhibition celebrating the life Diana, Princess of Wales and honouring her memory.

Unique childhood cine footage, the famous bridal gown and over twenty of the Princess’s most memorable outfits are on display.

The House
The 16 state rooms, including Wootton Hall, the saloon, the Library, the Marlborough and Sunderland Rooms, contain fine pictures by Rubens, Van Dyck, Reynolds and Gainsborough.

The porcelain collection in the Garden Lobby is worth a visit.

The Grounds
Pay your respects at the Round Oval, as the manmade lake built in 1866 is known, where Diana, Princess of Wales is laid to rest.

There can be few people who are not moved by its natural and tranquil beauty. An urn stands on the island and has been left to grow wild in memory of the Princess.

Admission to Althorp includes an audio tour with guides provided in most rooms.

This tour is operated by a driver guide.

Earl Spencer donates all the profits from Althorp to the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, a registered charity.
